E‑Prescribing Use Case

   Modern endocrinology practices often manage patients with chronic conditions (e.g. diabetes, thyroid disorders, osteoporosis, hormone therapy) that require frequent medication adjustments, renewals, and monitoring. Traditional paper or fax‑based prescriptions are error-prone, time-consuming, and introduce friction in the patient journey (patients must physically bring paper scripts to pharmacies, pharmacies may call back for clarification, lost scripts, delays, etc.).
   
   E‑prescribing (or e‑Rx) enables the provider to electronically transmit prescriptions directly from the practice’s system to a pharmacy. This reduces errors, saves time, enhances compliance, and improves patient satisfaction.
   
   By integrating e‑prescribing into the Akoya Endo Software platform, the practice can offer a more efficient, safe, and digitally cohesive medication workflow as part of its all-in-one practice management system.
2. Workflow (End-to-End)
   The provider initiates a “New Prescription” workflow:
   — Search/select a drug (with dosage, strength, route, frequency).
   — The system displays possible interactions, allergy alerts, duplications, contraindications, and formulary alternatives.
   — If the patient’s insurance plan is known, a real‑time benefit check may surface cost, out-of-pocket, or tier alternatives at that moment (depending on integration).
   — If a formulary limitation exists, alternate medications or generic equivalents might be suggested.
